Hondon de las Nieves is a bustling village in the heart of wine country, situated in 'el valle de las viñas' - the valley of the vines. The town is 30km inland from Alicante Airport and 16km northeast of Elche. Surrounded by wooded Sierras(mountain ranges) this is great wine producing country known as the District of Vinalopó; a name often seen on Spanish wine.
The Hondon de las Nieves village sits in a valley with the Sierra de la Crevillente to the south and Sierra de los Frailes to the north. Summers are hot and dry while the winters are a couple of degrees cooler than the coastal areas and of course milder than the UK.

Hondon de las Nieves itself has a population of around 1600 people. Village life centres on the 'plaza' - a picturesque square with pastel-shaded old buildings including the ayuntamiento (town hall) and several bars serving tasty tapas looking onto an area that provides the focal point for the various fiestas that take place throughout the year.
There are also a few supermarkets one of which is English, a 24hr store, two butchers, a bakery, newsagent, bank, hairdresser, tobacconist and chemist. Market days in the village are Wednesday and Saturday plus there is an indoor weekday market selling fresh local produce.
