March 28 2007 saw the enforcement of Royal Decree 240/2007, which rules residencias are now unnecessary for EU expats living in Spain. The central government’s highest representative on the Costa Blanca, government delegate Etelvina Andreu has stated that “Residencias are now completely unnecessary for EU citizens. All that will be required as formal ID from any official body or officers of the law will be a passport.” WowFactorSpain's advice to residents is to make sure you are on the Padron (register at your Town Hall) and to carry your passport with you. (FYI: A laminated double sided copy of the photo page from your passport is not always recognised as legal ID.) |
